I have never used a rice cooker. I've always used my Microwave - but unfortunately it died and the rice program on the new one just doesn't seem work. After trying various programs/timings and spoiling half a dozen batches, I decided to bite the bullet and buy an electric rice cooker. I chose the Tiffany because it was small (only 5 cups but it would be very rare for me to cook that much), extremely cheap and if it didn't work out, I wasn't out of pocket by too much. To my absolute surprise, it cooks my rice perfectly, both white and brown. OK, you have to fiddle with the amount of water (I am using more than recommended, particularly for the brown rice), but once you've cracked the right quantity, you end up with well cooked, fluffy rice. It does take longer than the microwave - but that's just a question of organising your cooking and starting the rice ahead of time.
So far I haven't had any problems with sticking or burning however I am very careful of how I wash the inner bowl - soft cloth or sponge only, no scourers. But really, if it lasts me 12 months I'll be happy.
